Sony has confirmed it will add PlayStation Classics support to the PS Vita in the upcoming firmware version 1.8 update.
The platform holder mentioned the firmware during its announcement of the PlayStation 2 Game Archives service for PlayStation 3 in Japan (via Andriasang).
However, it hasn't provided any specific dates for when we can expect the firmware to arrive, other than the already mentioned "summer" release window.
Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida has admitted the company should have spent more time on the handheld at its E3 press conference last month.
Andrew House, Sony Computer Entertainment's CEO, recently said the Vita is not in need of re-evaluation but the company needs "to put more emphasis on the kinds of experiences that define and differentiate" the portable.
House also promised "there's a good raft of content in the works".
